An interesting reply from Opposition on government's statement that economy will go bankrupt if oppo wins. Of course this reply will not be published on mainstream media. Can you help put it on the blog for the benefit of the rests: Adzimi Taken from Malaysiakini.com Economic plans will only bankrupt nation if ... Fauwaz Adbul Aziz | Feb 28, 08 5:02pm The opposition parties' economic plans will indeed bankrupt the nation, conceded Islamic opposition party PAS. But only if these plans were implemented by a government led by Barisan National (BN) leaders, PAS spokesperson Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir said in a cheeky disclaimer to the first statement. "We don't want you to implement the manifesto. We want to implement the manifesto if we are in power," Roslan told a press conference at PAS' headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. "Inefficient administration and abuse of power by this BN government will make it impossible for BN to fulfill the promises set in the manifesto presented by PAS, PKR and DAP. "The nation will, in fact, go bankrupt if BN attempts to implement them. However, PAS believes that if PAS, PKR and DAP are mandated by the people, we are able to fulfill our manifesto promises without the risks of bankrupting the country," he added. Roslan, who serves as the press secretary to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, was responding to BN chairperson Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, among others, who have rubbished PAS' plans as contained in its manifesto. Mismanagement and abuses BN leaders described as 'undoable' PAS proposal to grant amnesty to those who have not paid back their National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) loans, to lower the price of fuel, and implement minimum wage laws. Roslan, however, said billions of ringgit had been lost due to mismanagement and abuses by BN leaders. He said that PAS was ready to take on BN leaders in an open debate on the manifestos presented by the ruling and opposing parties. On another matter, Roslan called on the Election Commission to address the issue of BN leaders campaigning on the platforms afforded by their position as government executives. He said BN deputy chairperson Najib Razak yesterday campaigned in the Desa Pahlawan armed forces base in Kok Lanas, Kelantan by invoking his position as Defence Minister so as to influence voters there. Roslan also said an enforcement division official from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Zulkifli Ibrahim, also campaigned for the BN at Kampung Pandan in the parliamentary constituency of Titiwangsa yesterday together with the coalition's candidate Aziz Jamaluddin Md Tahir. Responding to two issues raised pertaining to Abdul Hadi, Roslan blasted several media organisations as having taken the PAS president's words out of context. He cited reports today of Abdul Hadi having purportedly 'decreed' PAS speakers the green light to 'mengumpat' (malign the character) BN candidates and expose their shortcomings. The word 'mengumpat' was wrongly used because it conveys a sense of spreading baseless lies behind the back of the person in question, said Roslan. In the matter of choosing and electing persons to government, it is common knowledge and practice that people should be openly informed of whatever shortcomings of certain leaders as long as these were based on facts and not mere rumours, he said. Poverty in Terengganu Roslan added that public accusations were better than 'secret' character assassination because the person targeted can know what he is up against and reply accordingly. He also said Abdul Hadi's criticisms of the 'Crystal Mosque' on Wan Man Island in Kuala Terengganu had been reported as Abdul Hadi having merely written off the mosque as being a wasteful project. Roslan said his party boss was speaking of the issue of poverty in Terengganu, which is listed as the second poorest state after Sabah as 15.4 percent of its population are cited as living below the poverty line. In view of this as well as the fact that there are 26,000 poor families while 19,000 are 'hardcore' poor, the construction of the Crystal Mosque at a cost allegedly of RM500 million is wasteful, said Roslan. "We have received information that the officiation of the grand complex on its own came upt to RM15 million," Roslan noted further.
