Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan...tepen style membawa anda ke area Ampang. Kalau ada antara korang yang dok kat area Ampang, or singgah area Ampang & nak makan makanan padang, boleh la try Restoren Pelita Padang di Ampang Hilir.

Macam mana nak p? Kalau korang kat Jalan Ampang, masuk ke KESAS highway menghala ke arah Shah Alam/Klang/Seremban. Lepas masuk KESAS akan nampak satu exit belah kiri. Masuk exit tu & dalam 300 metre ada row of shops belah kiri. Kedai tu 2nd block from 7-Eleven.Satu lagi landmark dia exit tu across Tesco Ampang. Senang la nak carik nanti.

Makanan kat situ kalau tengok secara kasar mmg macam makanan biasa yg korang makan kat restoren lain. Tapi aku rasa taste dia ikot taste aku. Kawan aku yg dok biasa makan ngan aku pun bila makan ni katanya sedap. Lagi satu mungkin faktor penyedap sebab harganya yg memang berpatutan. Kawan aku makan nasi+sotong+taufu+sayur+telur dadar + coke = RM7.70. Kalau kedai mamak ko bantai sotong mmg tak kurang dari sepoloh rengget.

Lauk yg aku suka kat sini daging masak cili hijau. Cili hijau tu ditumis + daging lembu yg diketuk (utk kasi lembut) & sambal tumis ikan bilis tempoyak.

Sebelah kedai ni ada satu lagi restoren, restoren siam. Aku try plam-plooot saja.. hahaah itu nama kawan aku bagi utk pulut mangga. Bak kata kawan aku yg biasa p kat Siam, plam-plooot ni biasa je compare ngan kat siam. Kalau nak yg ori punya kena p kat Bangsar. Nanti aku dptkan details kat mana Bangsar utk dpt plam=plooot yg sodap.

13 years and counting

It has been 13 years since we left maktab. I can recall that some of us had enjoyable memories of it, while others felt indifferent and there were also some who would not want to be associated with it.

I fall into the category of the ones who are reluctant to be associated with the maktab. I even told those who asked that I hated the place and I felt more in tuned with my convent school prior to the maktab.. That was how I felt about the maktab back then. Call it teenage angst.. maybe there was some elements of it, together with a rebellious attitude towards life.

That was 13 years ago.

Now, after 8 years since leaving uni, and I guess some credits must be given to this blog and those who made it alive, I've accepted my maktab life as a memory that I cherished and a part of my growing up. I've started connecting with ex-collegemates and rekindling old friendship that I've since forgotten.

I started to remember that life wasn't all that bad in Taiping. Sure I missed the freedom, my family and my childhood friends back then. But I also know that there are friends that I've made during the 2-years at the maktab that stayed with me during my tough and happy times.

This posting is a tribute to Ihsan and all of us, ex-Taiping batch 94/95 who kept the blog alive and for our silent friends who made time to drop by and have a peek at what we're babbling about.

Next time, don't just peek but say a simple hello. We are no strangers to each other. We make who we want to be. Hey, we did spent 2 years at the maktab (some of us even married our ex-collegemates), so we practically know everyone. So don't be shy to say hi..

Macam mana nak p Restoren Sururi, Alam Shah?

Kalau korang tau Masjid Jamek Alam Shah, Restoren Sururi ni sebelah Masjid Jamek tu.

Kalau yang tatau tu, dia dekat ngan Bulatan Kg Pandan. Kalau from Jalan Tun Razak korang exit Bulatan Kg Pandan. Lepas tu korang cari exit ke Jalan Cochrane. Make sure korang stay on left lane, sebab lepas exit Jalan Cochrane korang akan jumpa one fork. That fork masuk kiri. About 20-30 metre after fork tu korang akan nampak Restoren Sururi belah kanan. Korang akan jumpa traffic light. belah kanan ada Stesen minyak Petronas & belah kanan ada Masjid Jamek.



Kat traffic light tu korang buat u-turn. After perhentian bas belah kiri, masuk pintu lepas tu. Cari parking & carik la tempat orang berduyun2 hehehe, satu utk solat, satu utk makan... tepuk dada tanya selera :D

Yang demikian itu adalah lebih dekat (untuk mencegah) supaya kamu tidak melakukan kezaliman. (3) Dan berikanlah kepada perempuan-perempuan itu mas kahwin mereka sebagai pemberian yang wajib. Kemudian jika mereka dengan suka hatinya memberikan kepada kamu sebahagian dari mas kahwinnya maka makanlah (gunakanlah) pemberian (yang halal) itu sebagai nikmat yang lazat, lagi baik kesudahannya. Death Magnetic by Metallica

Release World Wide, last week ( I think US was Sep 12-2008 and Malaysian release 15th Sep) The latest album from Metallica since 2003 (St Anger) Last week, an article on the groups’ latest album was printed in The Star. Much anticipated as Fans were able to follow the bands studio sessions from Metallica's Web site. Much hype as the last 5 albums (since Sandman) was big disappointments. The band brought fresh ideas from a new producer, whom gave some 'old advice'. “Get back to the old Metallica's trademark music". So that’s what the band did. With the pillar of the band (Hefield and Ulrich), back to their best, the group churned out massive tracks that remind us of their old head banging days. If you guys still want to hear it, do something about it. :D

My opinion? It is the best album since ‘Black Album’. Not suitable for parents who has small babies. Don’t know what the lyrics are, but soo much into the music. Will listen to it, until I grew bored of it. Best used when driving alone at night time, and you are damn sleepy. :D

I don’t buy albums anymore, but this is the first full album I owned since 2000/2001.

Saja nak berkongsi dengan orang2 area Subang Jaya/USJ/Shah Alam.

Kalau dulu wife aku nak p area Shah Alam dia drive thru SS19 & jam teruk sebab area SS19 tu berdoyon2 sekolah-sekolah (translate=jam yg amat). Now kitorang pakai Elite/NKVE/PLUS exit USJ-EBOR. Junction EBOR ni ada exit on south side, korang tak bley exit kalau korang dari PJ/Subang/Ipoh. Hanya utk org dari south/KLIA/Cyberjaya/USJ. Exit EBOR ni after exit Seafield (exit ke KESAS, Shah Alam, Klang, Cheras, Segala jenis Pandan termasuk Pandan Indah).

Kalau masuk toll EBOR pulak, the only route is to South. Tak boleh nak p area PJ/Subang/Ipoh. Member aku kalau balik ke selatan & nak p utara, dia keluar toll EBOR pastu masuk highway Guthrie tembus kat Rawang. Nak masuk toll EBOR ni ikot jalan batu 3 Shah Alam, lepas traffic light kilang gula CSR menghala ke bulatan kilang Panasonic ada signboard Cyberjaya/Putrajaya/KLIA/Johor Bharu. Toll booth tu just dlm 200-300 meter dari exit.

Aku pakai exit ni dari USJ masa Chelsea lawan selected XI hari tu & jalan jam sket lepas toll EBOR. Lepas masuk Federal terus oraits.

Sup daging kat sini memang power. Dagingnya lembut & macam dimasak dengan api kecik bukan pakai pakai pressure cooker. Harga pun oraits. Aku makan sup daging + nasi puteh + sayur campur + air barli ais = RM5.50.

Kalau nak compare sup2 aku makan kat area KL ni, aku bley letak sup ni no 1 sama tarap ngan sup gearbox warung dusun bangi. Next stop utk sup - Sup Kaw Kelana Jaya & Sup Semenyih kat Kajang....

The news that everyone is waiting for. Pak Lah will not contesting for President post come this March 2009 UMNO Election. Its a great news given the dire political and economy situation now. However there is doubt whether Najib can do better himself. Different types of scandal surrounding our soon-be PM, I wonder whether he can last until March 2009 election.

Today (Friday) Najib voluntarily nominate himself for the presidency post. Its totally different from what we learn during our prophet. Sahabat will only take the Gabenor post only after being nominated by others, not voluntarily.

Najib made a unbeliveable statement yesterday, Malaysia would not be affected by American meltdown. Japan, Germany, Australia has pump money into their national bank to boost the economy. Of course Warren Buffet also bought Citibank shares worth US$5 billion. How are we not affected again, Mr MOF? Shares are closing low this weekend, even the trend is scarry. Imagine, once KLSE market open, the points keep droping. A few times the KLSE points went up, but for a short period. someone pumping money?

Shocking news! Shah Rukh Khan of Bollywood is getting Dato' from Malacca!!! Trully amazing. I guess his dance and act really got YDP of Malacca love Bollywood movie too much. When I told the news to my friends, the first thing they asked me, what has he done for the betterment of Malacca?

Doing Good Deeds Even After Ramadan

One should continue to perform acts of worship after Ramadan to prevent sudden emptiness of the soul.

The rapid shift from obeying Allah Almighty in Ramadan to disobeying Him and moving away from His way after Ramadan has its reasons, the most important of which are the following:

• Absence or lack of sincerity during the acts of worship that used to be performed: This insincerity is exemplified in the person who performs prayer or pays charity so that people will see him. In doing so, he may achieve a certain rank, some material benefit from them, or the like. Such a person does not perform acts of worship with the intention of pleasing Allah Almighty, and achieving a great reward in the Hereafter.

An Islamic Perspective, Meltdown in American Markets

Call it the consequences of irresponsible American invasions, call it the irrational exuberance of short sellers, call it the catastrophe of subprime lending, call it the mismanagement of leveraged products, blame it as you may, American markets are facing unprecedented meltdown and doomsayers see little promise in the federal bailout package. Ironically, the Wall Street has noticed that Shariah-compliant investments- -which avoid speculative risk and debt-ridden greed--have fared much better in these troubled markets. In the past few years, Shariah-compliant investments in Western markets have grown to more than half a trillion dollars.

Islamic financing is attracting huge academic curiosity. Many experts participating in the 8th Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance held this past April wondered if Islamic financing could have prevented the meltdown that American markets are facing primarily due to mortgage debt and mortgage-backed securities—now known as "toxic investments. " This legal commentary highlights the two fundamental principles of Islamic financing that I presented at the Forum.

High Risk Investments
The Quran prohibits al-Maysir or speculative risk, warning the faithful to avoid games of chance in which the probability of loss in is much higher than the probability of gain (2:219). compliant investments, therefore, avoid speculative risk, including interest rate options, naked equity options, futures, derivative and numerous leveraged products purportedly designed to hedge investments. Many of these financial products attract speculators in hopes of making quick money. When trusted fund managers, under institutional pressures to show profit, resort to speculative risk, hedge investments turn into suicidal strategies for financial destruction.

In pursuit of greed and thrill, straightforward investments in companies engaged in socially useful activity has become unattractive, even boring, because of their presumably lower rate of return—frequently a self-fulfilling prophecy. Billions of dollars are dumped into companies that promise huge profits but produce nothing. While Islam would allow risking investments in socially beneficial research projects, it prohibits investments in companies peddling alcohol, tobacco, pornography, debt, and weapons—products that undermine our health and safety.

Some investment strategies rampant in the markets are not only morally corrupt but socially harmful. Short sellers, for example, make money when companies collapse and close. Turning the conventional logic of investment on its head, short sellers wish companies to crash rather than prosper for they make most money when companies go bankrupt, workers and employees lose jobs, and pension funds evaporate through declining company stock. Such cynical investments, touted as useful forces that balance the market, are contrary to Islamic law.

Interest-Bearing Debt
In addition to prohibiting high risk investments, the Quran also prohibits no risk investments. The prohibition against riba, interest on loans, is strictly forbidden. Islam does not prohibit passive investments. Nor does it prohibit giving interest-free loans. Debt is not contrary to Islamic law. Charging interest is. Although some experts argue that usury, and not interest, is prohibited under Islamic law. Most Muslim scholars agree, however, that interest on loans is contrary to the Shariah.

Refuting arguments that money has time value or that interest is analogous to profit, the Quran offers a categorical principle that "trade is permitted but interest is not." (2:275). The prohibition against interest was revealed not only to save the poor from unscrupulous lenders but also to deter investors who demand a set return on their investments and decline to take the risk of engaging in useful trade.

Contrary to Islamic principles, lending in general and sub prime lending in particular was predestined to harm American financial markets for two distinct reasons. First, debt braced with high interest was being extended to persons who simply could not afford to pay back loans. This was usury. Second, the real estate mortgage was no longer a prudent investment decision, since numerous investors were trading in real estate with inflated prices. Investment bankers and other geniuses on Wall Street were securitizing mortgage debts, turning them into interest-bearing securities. These fancy securities began to fail when their underlying assets were foreclosed or deflated. The debt turned deadly and its holders bankrupt.

Shared Destruction
Between the prohibited limits of maysir (speculative risk) and riba (no risk), however, Islamic Law permits creativity in financial markets where investors mobilize surplus monies for the production and distribution of halal (Kosher) goods and services. These permissible markets are neither risk-free nor prone to irresponsible risk. Though innovative and authentic, the markets are infused with the values of fairness, transparency, and reasonable profits. They are free of predatory practices that corrupt transactions with greed and inflict hardship on the poor, the elderly, and the novice.

The federal bailout package that the Bush Administration is selling as a quick cure of all problems will only aggravate the underlying cancer of interest-bearing debt. It is unlikely that the infusion of more money will reform institutions and companies built on layers of interest-bearing debt. When the best and the brightest are engrossed in finding ways to make money with money, and no more, the system may look creative and intelligent but it is geared toward shared destruction.
