An article from Harian Metro today shocked me with a story of a single mother with 3 children might lose her house due to her late husband's loan default amounting RM283k. Claiming the deceased made an overdraft loan of 58k without her knowledge, she questioned the bank negligence to acknowledge her in much earlier time.
I felt extremely sorry for her but it makes me think of how they (or we) manage our family financial system. If we were in her shoes, what would come across our mind? I know some of us might think these unfortunate stories only happen to strangers.
Financial aids are biggest help of all, but it might be the most impossible as well. We would wish her late husband told her about the loan but it had happened and no one could turn back the time. Or he should buy some insurance policies, ammortised the loan or have a secret diary about his wealth but now it's too late for anything.
For sure, it's something for us to think about since we are not late yet...
