I AM LEGEND: A REVIEW

(by Naz) I know this is a must see, as all of Will Smith’s movies. He has established himself as a box-office maker, an action hero, and this film is no exception, smashing in the US by outperforming Lord of the Ring’s record in December 2003. I Am Legend is an adaptation of on the 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. The film is set in the year 2012, after a genetically altered virus has destroyed most of mankind. Will Smith plays Robert Neville, an Army doctor who's somehow immune from the virus and lives in a Manhattan without any other human except his dog, Sam. The zombies can only go out at night when there’s no longer sun light. The movie is a mixture of action/thriller/horror, I mean the sight of the Darkseekers (the zombies) really scares me out of my seat, I covered my eyes every time when the zombie appears, and being staged in an empty, abandoned Manhattan, the sight of the city, eerie and like Neville said, the ground zero. For the last 3 years Neville has been doing research to reverse the virus mutation, however when he captured 1 female zombie for his research, all hell’s break loose as its partner, a head zombie went at lengths to get to him, and they did, finally. Will Smith’s portrayal of a lonely survivor endearingly captivating as he wanders through his daily survivalist routines, amiably talking to himself and his loyal dog, fighting for his sanity. Even the dog Sam gives an outstanding performance. The CGI is good, the story line is good. I’ve never seen a film like this so, it really gets to me, watching this film can be a bit depressing as you really liked the Neville character and you wished the ending is better, but as the title goes, “ I am Legend” definitely a film made for Will Smith. Critics ratings are good, and I will rate this as 8/10.
